Somatic Parts Pilgrimage

The Somatic Parts Pilgrimage is a healing journey of online live classes offered throughout the year. Restorative Catholic mentors have received training in Biology of Trauma, Somatic Experiencing, and IFS, and are integrating this training more closely with our Catholic faith.

How this approach can help you

Our Somatic Parts Pilgrimage offers a unique and effective approach to therapy. As trauma is stored in the body it has proved beneficial to go to the body as a first place for therapy. Through somatic (or body) therapy, we find ourselves coming to a place of rest and safety, of support and grace, and of readiness to engage in a human and productive way.

Somatic work prepares the individual for and facilitates parts work. Parts work comes from the Internal Family Systems (IFS) and helps give language and expression to the experience that there are different “parts” of us—part of us that wants to move, part that wants to freeze; part that wants to be happy and connected, and a part that wants to hide, isolate, and remain sad. In order to process through unresolved trauma, Restorative Catholic integrates this somatic and parts work into our healing approach.

Somatic Pilgrimage

September 3rd – 27th

The first step to healing is learning Somatic Tools which we will guide you through on the Somatic Pilgrimage . This online workshop meets every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Each day we meet, we will learn and practice together one new somatic exercise. The goal of the workshop is to address stored trauma in your body, gain tools to reset your nervous system, which will help bring you out of freeze to a place of serenity (parasympathetic), where you are relaxed, your best self, present and connected to yourself, others and God. These somatic tools will increase your capacity to safely and gently go into the deeper parts work (IFS).

Somatic Parts Pilgrimage

The next step is addressing the thoughts and beliefs you have about yourself, also understood as your younger parts. After completing the Somatic Pilgrimage, you will have the somatic tools to go deeper into your thoughts and beliefs, or parts work. Here we will build awareness of different parts us that may be driving our thoughts, beliefs and behaviors. The goal is to gradually learn to act and live from our True Self, which is also our connection to God. As stated above, we also incorporate the somatic tools we learned in the Somatic Pilgrimage, making it a very gentle and safe healing journey.

This Pilgrimage meets one day a week for 8 months, utilizing this book, Self-Therapy Workbook, by Bonnie Weiss

Monday Night Somatic

Every Monday Night we offer an online live class, with mentors leading you in a somatic parts work exercise. It is required that you have already taken the first two courses (highlighted above) so as to enter more deeply into this healing work. This class builds on the former two. And the exercises we lead you through target more specifically the source of the trauma, but always with gentleness and compassion.
